Extra Cheese: How they did it
Today, I wanted to point out two blog posts from academics who transitioned to public policy.
From PhD to policy leader - Chris Cornthwaite, a religious studies PhD, talks about transitioning to public policy work in Canada. Some of the tips seem helpful for people in the US, including 1) informational interviews; 2) how to think about your research in a public policy context.
Working for the Man?! Turning Your PhD into a Meaningful Job with the Federal Government - Ryan Reft, an historian, talks in detail about transitioning from teaching college to a job as LOC Librarian. He also shares good tips about how to make sense of USAJOBS, and what to look out for when you’re deciding whether a posting is worth a shot.
That’s it, that’s the e-mail.
