Program Support Specialist • Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (Defense) • March 2, 2022

Uniformed. Just the one n. I don’t usually include jobs with this kind of deadline, but I’m putting it here because it might be helpful to know about when you’re doing your own searches.

This is not a USAJOBS application, you have to apply through e-mail. There might also . . . not be a job? I hate these flyers. Anyway, the position is teaching and admin: “You will provide educational, analytical, and administrative technical guidance, advice, and assistance on educational and administrative operations, programs, and activities of the organization.”

Minimal qualifications are one year of experience “analyzing educational data or reports to provide recommendations and improve administrative processes within an education program.” There are also higher qualification levels, and I should think teaching would qualify you for at least one.

Assistant Professor (Persian Farsi) • Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (Army) • March 8, 2022

These openings are in Georgia.

You, uh, need to be able to teach Farsi.

Foreign Affairs Officer • State • March 8, 2022

Okay, if you have worked on climate stuff, especially greenhouse gases and have data skills, check out this job.

You have to have those competencies, so I’m not going to say anything else.

Writer-Editor • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Commerce) • March 9, 2022

Here’s a cool job for a science-literate editor:

  • Research and develop written products that interpret, and explain highly complex, and potentially controversial but important messaging, that includes policies, programs, and research findings. Formulate speeches, briefs, documents and other products that articulate high level reports, achievements, etc., that senior National Ocean Service (NOS) leadership submits to the Department of Commerce, Office of Management and Budget, Congress, and the White House.

  • Write and edit research and other technical reports/products written by scientists (domestic and foreign), and consult with them. Serve as resource on policies and practices to other writers who develop material for publication. . . .

The qualifications are experience editing:

  • Providing editorial assistance to management and authors by applying knowledge of grammar, sound editorial practices, typesetting conventions, and modern printing to produce publications; and

  • Researching and interpreting technical and scientific information and policies to develop materials for a variety of audiences.

If you have subject expertise, put it in the résumé. The KSAs are about communication and writing with a variety of audiences, mostly. This posting has a lot of good language to use in a résumé, which is handy! The questions are most experience/training questions. I always find that an awkward way of phrasing things.

Portfolio Manager • AmeriCorps • August 3, 2022

This is a remote position but it’s also tied to a location sort of? I don’t know. I don’t know what to do about that deadline, either. Anyway, as is usually the case, this is described as a combination of grant management and administration: “As an advisor to current and perspective grantees or sponsors, the Portfolio Manager is responsible for providing ongoing technical assistance and support to grantees or project sponsors to ensure the effective, timely and compliant administration of their grant award.”

They break it down further, too, so look there if you have general experience in this area. The specialized experience is:

  • Independently overseeing and managing a portfolio of grantees and projects;

  • Providing technical assistance and program development guidance to current or potential grantees or project sponsors throughout the grant life cycle; and

  • Providing authoritative information relaying legal and regulatory requirements for programmatic and fiscal management of Federal grants to grantees.

And here are the questions!

Okay, that’s it for this week!
